54: Matt Seeks Help

“What do you mean she checked out?” Matt asked frantic trying to reach Val on her phone all night and day. The hotel staff didn’t have anymore information about her whereabouts. She left. She fucking left.

What happened? What the hell did Domenic do? Had he taken Val?

On the second day, he went to the charity where Val volunteered, but Tina didn’t know anything. No one did. She hadn’t mentioned leaving.

Matt called the number a few more times and on the last call he got the dreaded recording: The number you have dialed has been disconnected and is no longer in service…

Matt threw shit. He just started picking up anything near him and slammed it. There was only one other time he lost his damn mind and that was when Tyler destroyed his piano. This time…this time felt like another level of hell.

Finally calming down, he called Walthour and demanded the number or whereabouts of Domenic. Not wanting Matt to confront the gangster, Walthour said he would talk to the man. An hour later, Walthour confirmed that Val wasn’t with Domenic. No one saw her leave town. Not even Domenic.

“There is something you should know.” Walthour continued. “Domenic told Val somethings that might have caused her to leave you.”

“What things?” Matt’s grip on the phone bruised his hands.

“Radford was her biological father. You are her half-brother.” Walthour told him.

Matt just stared at the walls in shock.

“Matt?”

No way.

“Matt?

“He’s lying.”

“I thought the same. But he says he can provide proof.”

Matt tried to open his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.

“Matt?”

“Is Tyler with you?”

“No.” Walthour got quiet before he said, “Do you want me to send him to you?”

“Yes.”

“I’ll arrange it. He should arrive first thing tomorrow.”

Matt collapsed on the floor after hanging up. He stared at the ceiling. Then smiled. Cody’s going to be so jealous. They had a real sister. A real blood sister.

And she’s mine.

“Where are you, Val? You can’t hide.” Matt narrowed his eyes. A wicked thrill shivered through him. “I warned you…”

Matt was playing his piano the next evening when Tyler walked into the condo. Finishing his song, he watched as Tyler strolled casually to the piano in a neat charcoal colored suit and took a seat on the bench next to him.

“Did Mr. Walthour tell you anything?” Matt asked.

“He told me you need to see me. Face to face,” Tyler gritted out. “How is it…” He took in a slow deep breath. “I’ve been trying to get away from that man for the last few weeks just to get a kiss from Bailey, but all you have to do is summon me and I’m released from servitude without so much as a time frame as to when he expects me back? What am I missing? Why does this smack of a setup? From my own brother?” Tyler asked glaring at Matt. Then his face softened as he looked Matt over. “You haven’t slept.”

“I need your help.”

Those gold eyes watched Matt carefully, observing everything. Calculating even before he knew the details. “You never need my help.”

“Now I do.”

Tyler nodded once. “Talk to me little brother.”
